How it all
began

It was a cold January night in Austin. Low Down Lounge, a dive bar on the east side. Stevie was there with her friend Tara, trying to have a night out. The problem was a plumber. He had decided Stevie was the love of his life and that the path to her heart was a steady supply of shots. He was not taking the hint. He was not going to take the hint. He was settling in.

Across the bar, Chris walked in with a group of friends, including a few new faces. One of them, Greg, took one look at Tara and was hooked. He went over, introduced himself, got nowhere, and came back to pull Chris in to wingman.

Chris had already noticed the friend. He went over with one job: help Greg close the deal. Within two seconds it was clear that Tara was engaged, Greg had no shot, and the plumber was still hovering.

So Chris pivoted. He started talking to Stevie, and somewhere in the next few minutes, he accidentally became the rescue mission he hadn't signed up for.

The plumber drifted off. Greg drifted off. Chris and Stevie stayed, deep in a conversation that ran for hours. Charlotte, where they had both lived for a few years after college. Travel. Their dogs. Their families.

Greg went home without a number. The plumber lost the war he didn't know he was fighting. Chris got Stevie's number. Everyone got what they deserved.

Port Wine Tasting

Graham's Port Lodge

One of the Douro Valley's most storied Port houses, Graham's Lodge sits high above the river in Vila Nova de Gaia. Its vaulted cellars — home to thousands of ageing barrels — are a testament to two centuries of winemaking. We'll open the weekend here with a guided tour and seated tasting led by Graham's own sommelier.

Wedding Ceremony & Reception

Hotel Infante de Sagres · Porto

An Art Deco palace hotel in the heart of Porto, built in 1951 and beloved by royalty and dignitaries ever since. Its grand atrium, hand-painted azulejo tiles, stained glass windows, and historic ballroom make it one of the city's most magnificent venues. We couldn't imagine a more perfect place to become husband and wife.

Travel & Accommodation

Getting to Porto

Porto's Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) is well connected internationally. We recommend arriving by Wednesday, November 18th to settle in before Thursday's port tasting.

From the US: TAP Air Portugal flies direct from JFK, Newark, Boston, and Miami. One-stop options through Lisbon (TAP), London Heathrow (BA/Iberia), Amsterdam (KLM), or Paris CDG (Air France). Expect ~7 hrs from the East Coast, ~11 hrs from the West Coast.

From the airport: Taxis and Uber run ~€20–25 to the city center (20–30 min). Metro Line E goes directly to Trindade station in ~30 min for ~€2.60 — the most scenic option.

From Lisbon: The high-speed Alfa Pendular train connects Lisbon Oriente to Porto Campanhã in ~2h45m — a beautiful and stress-free journey.

Getting around Porto: The historic center is best explored on foot. Uber is cheap and reliable for longer distances. Skip the rental car — parking in central Porto is a nightmare.

Good to Know

Do I need a visa to visit Portugal?

US, UK, Canadian, and EU citizens do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. Check requirements at least 3 months before travel. Portugal is part of the Schengen Area.

What is the weather like in Porto in November?

Mild and occasionally rainy — expect 54–64°F. Pack a light jacket and a stylish umbrella. The golden November light is truly magical.

What currency is used in Portugal?

Portugal uses the Euro (€). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it's worth having some cash for smaller cafés and markets.

How do I get between venues?

Taxis, Uber, and Bolt (Portugal's local rideshare) are all readily available and very affordable in Porto. We recommend using those to get around — and skip the rental car. Driving and parking in the historic center is a headache not worth having.

What about the gift registry?

Your presence in Porto is the greatest gift. If you'd like to give, we have a small registry and welcome contributions to our honeymoon adventures — details to follow.
